Margaret Walker

Margaret (Maggie) Walker trained as a sculptor at Brighton Polytechnic form 1972-1975.  While this training remains evident in the three-dimensional aspect of older mixed media work (constructed with string, cane, acrylic), more recent clay work, and this new series shows a more defiant artistic maturity which explores innovative processes, textures and structures (knitted bronze, crocheted rope).

Walker’s work as a professional garden designer and earlier studies in botany have found their influence into the shapes and structure of a new body of work, bringing to mind cellular structures and resembling elementary life forms.
